Anna Li, a doctoral student at Pitt, won the Hult Prize in September. The $1 million in prize money was awarded to Li鈥檚 company Korion Health, which makes medical devices for patients to use at home.

The peregrine falcon chicks, now called fledges, that recently hatched on the Cathedral of Learning have taken their first flights as of June 3. The fledges, who hatched on April 22, had been preparing for their first flights over the past few days by hopping along the ledges of the Cathedral.

Since the start of May, nine tornadoes have occurred in the Pittsburgh region alone, the highest number recorded since 1985. Warm air from the Gulf of Mexico and wind conditions, among other factors, have likely caused the uptick in tornado occurrences in the region.
